Campground Recommendations & Information

ARIZONA

Recommendation for Campground in AZ

If you aren't in a hurry, you might stop at Railside RV Park in Williams, AZ and visit the Grand Canyon from there. It is about an hour north. If you haven't been there yet, you won't be much closer than Williams. By the way, it is nearly 200 miles shorter to go via I-70 to I-80 if you don't need to be in Flagstaff. Good route either way.  One is just longer.

CALIFORNIA

Camping in San Jose, Ca
There are very few RV Parks in the San Jose area; however, you might take a look at Maple Leaf RV Park in Morgan Hill. It is an easy commute, and a really nice park in a nice community. Give them a call and check their monthly rates.  tel. 408-776-1818

A Recommendation for a Campground in Bakersfield, Ca
Bakersfield Palms is  a great little park and they have instant phone hookups at the sites, which used to be free but I don't know if that is still the case. There are also some great Basque Restaurants and Bakery in Bakersfield. The Hotel Noriega is something of an institution, much favored by locals and little known by visitors. Here is a link of photos in the restaurant at the Noriega Hotel

Are There any Good Campgrounds at I-5 Williams, Ca.?
Almond Grove at Williams, is a nice park. We have stayed there a couple of times and at the time of our visit they allowed us to pick some almonds right off the trees in the park.

Camping in California?

What is the size of your rig? You are going a long way for "only a couple of days" in CA. If your rig is large prepare for a nightmare if you intend to sightsee with it in LA area. You can camp at the beach around Huntington, I think Huntington Beach St Park. If you have bikes, you can really get a good look at the area. Easy riding on the strand. No hills no motorized traffic. A great way to visit the many beach towns.

CANADA

Looking for a campground in Vancouver, Canada
There is a nice park near the airport in Richmond. It is peaceful and if you enjoy a bike ride, it is right on a great bike path. Also lots of great Asian food nearby. It is located about 6 miles from the center of Vancouver and a lot less expensive than the others. On the downside, there are no full hookup sites - no sewer.
(Note:  recommend telephoning first as this campground may be closing )

Vancouver Island

Fort Victoria RV Park, great location close to Victoria on Vancouver Island. If you enjoy bicycle rides, it is one block from the Galloping Goose Bike Path. This is a great paved path that will take you right into Victoria. The Galloping Goose runs from Swartz Bay Ferry Landing to Sooke Potholes near Sooke. It is about 45 miles for the whole ride and is fantastic. We have done the whole trail, but not in one day.

There are a number of good parks in Parksville right on the bay. Fun to walk at low tide. Tofino is fantastic and no problem to drive there with an RV, just slow down and look for eagles.  We spent two months on the island, and hated to leave. There is always more to see and do. Great time also for seasonal fruits right at the farms. I wanna go back!

WASHINGTON, DC

Looking for a reasonably priced campground in the Washington, DC area

Camp Cherry Hill is good but expensive. The operative word here is "reasonably priced".   If $44 to $60 is reasonable, then that is the place to go. If not, read about Greenbelt NP.

If you can dry camp, Greenbelt National Park is a couple of miles away from Cherry Hill. Water and dump station are available. A Metro Station is only a couple of miles away. We have stayed there many times while visiting DC. What we save on a daily basis over Cherry Hill, pays for the Metro, lunch, and supper.

FLORIDA

Does Topsail Florida State Park offer senior discounts ?
Does this park offer the 1/2 price for FL seniors discount, the rest of the FL State Parks do ? Yes

SOUTH CAROLINA

Where is a full hook-up CG located close to 95 south about half way point to Fort Wilderness this coming fall.

Pedro's South of the Border, SC 29547
Tel: (800) 845-6011
The kids will enjoy it if they or you have any energy left after driving about 510 miles or about halfway. This time of year, reservations are necessary
.

UTAH

Camping in Moab, Utah
Moab is a major mountain biking destination. It is also home to one of the largest, if not the largest Jeep events in the world. Arches National Park and surroundings are not to be missed.

Moab Rim Campark

OK RV Park and Canyonlands Stables

Campground Zion
Anywhere in that park is a beautiful location. Electric hookups but no water hookups.  Bring your bikes and ride  from the CG up the Canyon. Altogether, we have spent months at Zion and Watchman campground.  Winter is a great time to really experience the splendor of Zion National Park.

Camping in the St. George, UT area?

St George is nice, but there are also a few CG's on the road to Zion NP as well as Camping in Zion. If you stay in Zion, you will be about 80 miles from Bryce. It is not a bad day trip with the days being long in the summer. It is also a really nice drive thru Zion to go to Bryce. If you can get into Zion in August, it is a great fun place to be. Warm enough to hike a bit in the freezing "Narrows" Canyon. We like camping in Zion in the Winter.  No full hookups, electric only.
