Mobile Tripod Mount System - Direcway Tripod Mount System

(includes a parts list)

Happily up and running wireless network since the DW6000 made it practical and easy. I love this technology and the ability to have Global Communication wherever we travel to, with or without hookups.

The first generation of Direcway consumer modems (DW4000) had ONLY a USB connection. The only wireless routers with a USB connection are/were very expensive so it was necessary to have a HOST computer. The new Generation DW6000 has an Ethernet connection as does just about every High Speed Modem ie; Cable, Dsl.  Now we can buy an off the shelf wireless router and just plug the router into the DW6000. Then any computer with wireless capability can connect.

The NIC will not work with a DW4000 as it  uses an Ethernet connection.

I am currently operating two wireless laptops served by my wireless Netgear router, DW7000 modem, and Direcway Tripod mounted dish.

  • 1 ea - “CP Products 5th wheel stabilizer tripod” (the one with the flat top).  Can be found here:    http://www.tjtrailers.com/store/cp-products-5th-wheel-stabilizer.html

  • 1 ea - 2” Floor flange

  • 4 ea - 3/8 x 1-1/4” long for floor flange to bolt to top of tripod. You will have to drill holes in top of tripod. (I actually used only 3)

  • 1 ea - 2” x 24” Galvanized pipe, threaded on one end, to fit floor flange. I lube the threads lightly to prevent rusting and to facilitate removal when breaking down.

  • 3 ea - 7/16” x 2-1/2” long bolts with washers for tripod leg hinges. The original bolts and holes are too small for the necessary stability. Holes will need to be enlarged by drilling to appropriate size.

  • 3 ea - Brass bushings to fit between ears of tripod leg hinge to prevent bending tabs when tightened. This provides friction and stability. The 7/16” x 2-1/2” bolts will go through these.

  • Compass and Level

  • A box to put some of the dish and tripod parts in when you take it down. I bought one at Wal-Mart.

    Setting up the tripod -

Set one leg in the general compass direction. Then the arm on the dish will be over that leg for balance.

Drill holes in foot pads of tripod large enough to accept 12” spikes for anchoring tripod.

Drill and mount a co-ax junction block to one of the legs for the cables.

More Tips:

Finding the satellite  if you don’t know the zip code at your location?  Use your software  mapping program  such as MS Streets and Trips.  Access the location tool that will give you coordinates.
