Is Passport America A Good Value?

Yes, PA is worth joining. On one recent visit 14 days at a Campground near Montreal we paid $15.00 per day with full hookups instead of $30.00. Saving of $210.00 in one visit. It costs $44.00 for one year membership. I think it is worth it.
Here is a Link, Passport America

Bottom line for us as fulltimers is that we save over $1000.00 a year on Camping costs using Passport America.

We have stayed in the following Passport America Parks. Our experiences, and comments are:

  • Staying near Grand Canyon

We have stayed in Williams AZ on several trips to visit the Grand Canyon. Williams is a really nice small town that is fun to walk around or bike. Grand Canyon is about 60 miles away and is a nice drive. There are a couple of CG's and one of them is a Passport America Park offering 50% off for up to four days. Here is a link to that park Canyon Gateway RV Park There is also the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park which is the one we usually stay at. It is right where the Grand Canyon Steam Train Departs from for the trip to GC.

  • Kiva RV Park
    Tucumcari, NM 88401
    505-461-1561

Park is 176 miles east of Albuquerque on Interstate 40.  We stayed a night in April 03.  This is a convenient stop enroute to Albuquerque coming from the east on I-40.

  • Hidden Valley Resort
    844 E Hwy 66
    Tijeras, NM 87059
    Tel: (505) 281-3363
    (800) 326-2024

Don’t let the steep hill at the entrance put you off.  It levels off, making this park an excellent choice for the Albuquerque area. We stayed here in April 2003.  It is located 20 miles east of Albuquerque.  You will find 86 sites with full hookups, 30 amp service at most sites & a few with 50 amp.  They can accommodate RV’s up to 48’, swimming pool, hot tub, playground, picnic area, two bathhouses, laundry room, clubhouse & TV lounge. Elevation is 6,680 feet.

    Regular Rate  $12.95
    Passport America Rate $6.48

This is a true full service campground. Facilities are excellent. The casino shuttle bus is convenient to get to the casino and back to your RV. This service goes quite late so I would warn you not to park on a busier corner of the campground, as you may be bothered by their noise. The employees are friendly and eager to please. We felt very comfortable there and met some wonderful local RVers who invited us to a pig roast “boucherie“.

  • Preferred RV Resort

We have camped here on a few occasions over the last couple of years thru Coast to Coast, and now they are Passport America. They are a full service campground. A good location if you want to take a break from Las Vegas, or in route to Death Valley. Only 60 miles from Las Vegas, but  it is quite a pull to get over the elevation.

  • Terrible's Lakeside Casino & RV Resort
    5870 S.Homestead Road
    Pahrump, NV 89048

The last few visits to Pahrump, we have stayed at Terrible’s Casino Camping on the Lake in Pahrump. 50 amp sites are available for those who want it. It’s really fun to be close to the casino if you get the urge to take a walk and drop a quarter. This campground is beautiful.

(There is also an Escapees Campground in Pahrump.)

  • Westgate Motel / Campground
    1627 S Byron Butler Pkwy
    Perry, FL 32347

We visited this campground in late Spring 04. I do not recommend it. In my opinion, there are no highlights to this one. Unless things have changed  in the last couple of months, it is rundown. The laundry room was the worst I have seen in my many years of camping. Needless to say, I did not use the facilities.

  • Sun Resorts, Inc
    3000 Clarcona Rd #99
    Apopka, FL 32703
    (407) 889-3048

We routinely stay here at least once each Winter. It is 15 miles from Orlando, and 55 miles from Daytona Beach. It is located right across from the West Orange Bicycle Trail which is one of the best paved trails in Florida. The park is kept up fairly well. Electric is usually acceptable. They have many fulltime, working residents of all ages in the park. We like to camp near the community center where the overnighters and seasonals stay. It is quiet and we feel secure in this section.

  • Camping Un Air D'été
    459 Grand Capsa
    Pont Rouge, QC G3H 1L3
    (418) 873-4791
    Email: deniscousineau@avantage.com

We have camped here recently ,and frequently over the years. The location is good , about 25 miles from Quebec City. It is a peaceful place located among the farms, a couple of miles outside the village of Pont Rouge. The power is good at this full hookup campground. The owners are willing to please. The entire family gets involved in running this park. Mr. Cousineau is the only family member who speaks English. They get very few English speaking visitors. Currently, no restrictions on blackout dates for Passport America.

  • Camping Du Lac Mineur
    397 Chemin De Ruisseau
St Jacques Le Mineur, QC J0J 1Z0
    Local (450) 346-0640

We visited this camping for the first time early June 04 for a couple of weeks. It is located about 25 miles south of Montreal. The power, 30 amp, seemed adequate, but we didn’t require AC during most of our stay there.  Also, the park was not full as they would be in July or August. For a large rig, 35 foot plus rig, the site access can be a little difficult since the  streets within the campground are narrow. The owner and staff are extremely accommodating. Although  the owner doesn’t speak English, most of her employees do. There were not many English-speaking visitors staying there when we were there.  The swimming lake on the property is pretty, and there are beautiful trees planted throughout the grounds.

    Camping in Moab, Utah
Moab is a major mountain biking destination. It is also home to one of the largest, if not the largest Jeep events in the world. Arches National Park and surroundings are not to be missed.

    Passport America Parks in Utah
    Moab Rim Campark
OK RV Park and Canyonlands Stables

    Passport parks
There are about 30 PA campgrounds between Racine and Dallas. If you are looking for one that is exactly where you want to visit, that may be difficult. At least 8 on the primary route of I 57 - I 30, and none of those 40 miles away. If you took the route thru St.Louis and Springfield, there are even more.
