The Glory of Baroque Dresden

Jackson, Mississippi

I attended the exhibition on 4/8/04.  It was unique and interesting.  Our tickets were purchased at the museum ticket office with no extra charges and fees to ticketmaster.  When I telephoned the museum in the a.m. they told me tickets were available during the week after 2 pm.  The school groups have finished by then.  They have a nice restaurant at the museum too.  Parking is available on the street at metered spaces (25 cents per half hour - limit 2 hours), or park in the lot directly across from the museum for $5.

If you are heading south on 49 after your visit to the museum, consider dinner (open 5 p.m.) at Jerry's Catfish.  About 7 - 10 miles south of downtown.  On left side in a large white dome building.  Best catfish in this part of the world - or maybe in the world.  $8.95 all you can eat, or $7.95 for a dinner.

At the Mississippi Arts Pavilion

 Jackson, Mississippi

March 1, 2004 through September 6, 2004

INDIVIDUAL TICKET PRICES:
Adults $20
Seniors (60+) $18

The Glory of Baroque Dresden exhibition makes this one-time, one-city appearance in Jackson, Mississippi. This $9.5 million project consists of more than 400 magnificent works from the State Art Collections Dresden and reflects Baroque art during the time of August the Strong and his son August III, electors of Saxony and kings of Poland.

This is the first major exhibition from Dresden presented in North America since the reunification of East and West Germany. These historic treasures survived the 1945 firebombing which nearly destroyed the city of Dresden.

The Glory of Baroque Dresden exhibition is a dazzling display of  jewels featuring the world-famous 41-carat Dresden Green Diamond,  paintings by  renowned Old Masters; priceless porcelains, and over 400 wondrous works of art, artifacts and armaments acquired by kings.
